Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD



Hello,
I'm going to tell you the difference between Blu-Ray discs and HD-DVD discs.


How do they work?

They both work with a laser but the HD-DVD can read a higher data-density.

Initiatif taking companies?

- Blu-Ray: Sony, Phillips, Panasonic, Sharp and Pioneer.

- HD-DVD: Toshiba, NEC, Intel and Microsoft.

Capacity? 

The Blu-Ray has a singlelayer capacity of 25GB and doublelayer 50GB.

The HD-DVD has a singlelayer capacity of 15GB and doublelayer 30GB.

Hybrid discs?

The HD-DVD is cheaper and easier.
The HD-DVD supports the hybrid format.

Maximal resolution?

The resolutions of both discs are 720p, 1080i and 1080p.

Sound?

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray both support:
- Dolby TrueHD
- DTS-HD
- Dolby digital plus
- Dolby digital
- DTS-ES

Copiesecurity?

HD-DVD uses AACS.
Blu-Ray uses AACS, BD+, BD-ROM and Mark.

Regionalcodes?

Blu-Ray has 3 regions.
The HD-DVD has none.

This means that the HD-DVD can be played on every device.

Price?

The HD-DVD player is much cheaper then a Blu-Ray player.
The costs of a HD-DVD player are €200 - €800.
The costs of a Blu-Ray player are €400 - € 1500.
